Amritsar, the "Golden City of India", has been held in great significance in the history of the Indian Independence Movement and post-independence movement. On April 13, 1919, people from different parts of Amritsar's Jallianwala Bagh had come to attend a protest meeting over the arrest of Dr Saifuddin Kitchlew and Satyapal Singh over their peaceful protest against the Rowlatt Act, which would put any Indian behind bars by the citizens of Britain if they caught any suspicious intention on them without providing any judgement and procedures. But while some other people had come to attend the Baisakhi fair, one of the largest celebration days in Punjab and the associated fair, the command of General Dyer had sparked off the continuous firing upon innocent people who had gathered there until it became a bloody massacre.
