Given, the boys and the girls in a school are in the ratio 9: 5. The total strength of the school is 448.
Let the number of boys and number of girls are x and y respectively.
So, xy=95 .
On cross multiplication we get,
5x = 9y ……..(1)
Also, x + y = 448
x = 448 - y ………(2)
Substitute equation (2) in equation (1).
5(448 - y) = 9y
2240 - 5y = 9y
y = 160.
Therefore, the number of girls is 160.
Hence, option 1 is correct.
