The Brahmaputra marks the Eastern boundary of the Himalayas. Beyond the Dihang couloir, the range angles sprucely to the south and expands along the eastern boundary of India. Hence, they are called the Purvanchal or the Eastern hills and ranges. These hills spreading through north-eastern states are composed of strong sandstones or sedimentary rocks. They mostly run as resemblant ranges and valleys and are filled with thick forests.
