Detailed Solution

The Battle of Plassey marked the beginning of British rule over Bengal.
The Britishers came to India as traders. They obtained Diwani rights from the Mughal rulers. But as Bengal became a regional kingdom under Nawabs, the British trade got affected. The Nawabs didn’t let the company hold concessions and demanded heavy duties. The company got enraged by the attitude of the Nawabs. Their trade got affected due to the interference of the Nawabs. So, the conflicts on trade led to conquests of Bengal. The first incidence of direct conflict was the Battle of Plassey. The Battle between Company and Siraj-ud-Daula resulted in the victory of the Company. The company established a puppet ruler who granted concessions to the British. However, the conquest didn’t stop. Rather the battle of Plassey became the beginning of the territorial conquests of the British.
