Detailed Solution

The British conquest of Bengal began with the Battle of  Plassey.
The British merchants arrived in India as merchants and established their base in Bengal. They obtained Royal Farman from the Mughal emperor to trade duty-free. However, their trading rights were obstructed by the Nawabs of Bengal. They accused the company of deceit. These conflicts between the Company and Nawabs led to the conquest of Bengal. It culminated in the Battle of Plassey of 1757. After the battle, the company established puppet rulers on the throne and obtained concessions in trade and other revenue rights. The company began to expand. The battle of Plassey brought a distinct phase of the Company’s future in India.
