The British decided to invite a German expert, Dietrich Brandis for advice and made him Inspector General. The problem of reckless felling of trees worried the British government. So, they decided to invite a forest expert from Germany to seek advice on forest conservation. The German expert was Dietrich Brandis who was appointed as the first Inspector General of Forests in India. He analyzed the forest condition and propounded the training in the science of conservation. He set up Indian Forest Services in the year 1864. He also formulated the Forest Act of 1865. He propounded the legal sanction on the use of forest resources. Anyone who cut the trees would be punished. In addition, he also opined for Scientific forestry.
