Detailed Solution

The British divided East Bengal and combined it with Assam. Bengal was partitioned in 1905. The British divided Bengal for administrative purposes. Instead of removing the non-Bengali territories from the province, the British separated East Bengal and united it with Assam. Bengal's division was opposed by the radicals and the moderates. Mass demonstrations and sizable public meetings served as the catalyst for the Vande Mataram Movement, also known as the Swadeshi Movement. In Bengal and deltaic Andhra, it was strongest. The Swadeshi movement opposed British rule and supported self-help, swadeshi enterprise, national education, and the usage of Indian languages.
