The BSP was formed in 1984. This is done under the leadership of the Late Mr Kanshi Ram. The leader of the party at present is Mayawati. The BSP is one of the eight national parties of the country, and its election symbol is an “elephant”. The main base of the BSP is in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The party focuses on the issues of the marginalised sections of society. The Bahujan Samaj Party represents the Bahujan Samaj, including the (Dalits) SCs or Scheduled Castes, the (Adivasis) STs or Scheduled Tribes, OBCs or, Other Backward Classes, and religious minorities.
