Detailed Solution

The Calico Act was passed to ban Chintz in England in the 18th century. Chintz was a delicate Indian textile with prints. It had small and colourful flowery designs. It was known for its exquisite design, delicate texture, and relative cheapness. It was in massive demand in England and Britain. However, by the 18th century, the textile producers of England started protesting against the import of Indian textiles. It was because European textiles could not match the quality of Indian textiles, and thus, they found it challenging to acquire the market. So the British government, in the year 1720, passed a law banning the use of printed textiles. This act was known as the Calico Act and banned using chintz.
