Jawaharlal Nehru formalised the call of Purna Swaraj.
Following the Simon Commission incident, the radical members of the Congress, led by Jawaharlal Nehru and Subhas Chandra Bose, grew increasingly adamant. The Lahore Congress officially demanded "Purna Swaraj," or complete independence for India, in December 1929, while Jawaharlal Nehru served as president. On January 26, it was decreed that everyone would commemorate the day as Independence Day and take a pledge to fight for full independence. But very little attention was paid to the celebrations.
