The canal rays led to the discovery of which subatomic particle?

In 1886, in the discharge tube experiment, E. Goldstein discovered the presence of new radiations in a gas discharge and called them canal rays because they passed through the holes or canals in the cathode. These rays were positively charged radiations which led to the discovery of another sub-atomic particle called protons.
