Detailed Solution

The case of State vs Laxman Kumar and Others is an example of Civil law.
One of the primary objectives of the judiciary in India is to address civil lawsuits that involve a disagreement between various persons or institutions. In February 1980, Laxman Kumar got married to Sudha Goel. They lived in Delhi, along with Laxman's brothers and their families. On December 2, 1980, Sudha Goel died in a hospital due to burns. In the hospital, Sudha told her neighbours, who went to save her, that it was her mother-in-law who put kerosene on her and that it was Laxman who set the fire. The trial court convicted Laxman, his mother, and his brother and sentenced all three of them to death. Later, they appeared in the High Court in November 1983, and all three of them were acquitted. But in 1985, the case was moved to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court held Laxman and his mother guilty but acquitted his brother due to a lack of evidence.
