Detailed Solution

The Champaran movement was about to abolish the Tinkathia system and the cultivation of indigo.
Mahatma Gandhi travelled to Champaran in Bihar after knowing about the condition of Champaran peasants. Rajkumar Shukla met Gandhiji and explained to him the situation of the peasants of Champaran. When Gandhiji came to Champaran, it was about the Tinkathia system adopted in the Indigo plantation. The Indigo planters of Bihar oppressed the cultivators of Champaran in April 1917. The concept was that Britishers forced the cultivators to either grow indigo without payment or stop growing indigo and pay rent. Both situations were highly unfair to the cultivators and were the reason that the farmers started a Satyagraha led by Gandhiji.
