The chaurasi in Gond state contained twelve units of the village. The chaurasi was divided into barhots, each of which contained 12 villages. Gond, a sizable tribe, split up into numerous smaller clans. There was a raja or rai for each clan. A history of Akbar's reign called the Akbar Nama describes the Gond kingdom of Garha Katanga, which had 70,000 villages. These Gondish kingdoms' governmental structures were growing more centralised. Garhs were created to split the kingdom. The particular Gond clan in charge of each garh. This was further divided into 84-village "chaurasi" divisions.
