Detailed Solution

The Chipko Movement was associated with forest conservation.
Chipko movement took place in the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand. It was led by Sunderlal Bahuguna and turned out to be an effective method of ecological protest by a local community. In this movement, people gather around the tree and hug it to protect it from being cut. It started in 1973 when people in a village in Uttarakhand (then part of Uttar Pradesh) protested against the project, causing deforestation. The villagers and local communities depend on the forests for their livelihood and daily needs. Rapid deforestation, especially in the Himalayan region, can make the ecology prone to disasters like landslides, which is also a problem for villagers. Thus the villagers and local communities
lay a vital and active role in protecting the forests.
