Dholavira was built on Khadir Beyt (sometimes spelled as Bet), near the Rann of Kutch, with abundant fresh water and rich soil. Unlike other Harappan cities, Dholavira was divided into three sections, each encircled by large stone walls and entered through gateways. The village also had a big open area where public rituals could be held. Other discoveries include enormous Harappan script letters cut out of white stone and possibly inlaid wood. This is rare because most Harappan writing has been discovered on small things such as seals.
