One of the most amazing aspects of the developed Harappan city was its drainage system. The city's street layout was built on a grid pattern and an east-west direction. The vast majority of the drains were hidden below and covered. Limestone blocks covered the largest drains. On top of this, a layer of mud was added. Every street was equipped with a functional drainage system. The homes had windows, doors, and ventilators constructed of brick and wood. When Mohenjo Daro had a good drainage system, no one had to deal with the nuisance of standing water on the streets.
