Detailed Solution

The Civil Disobedience movement began in the year 1930. Its beginning was marked by the breaking of the salt law by Gandhi and his followers at the coast of Dandi after Salt Satyagraha. Before going ahead with Salt March, Gandhi had written a letter to Viceroy Irwin, which stated eleven demands. One of them was to revoke the salt tax. Gandhi launched the Civil Disobedience campaign because Viceroy Irwin made it clear that he was unwilling to negotiate with Gandhi’s terms and conditions.
