The Civil Disobedience Movement was called off by Mahatma Gandhi. The Civil Disobedience movement started with breaking the salt law, and special stress was laid on the boycott of foreign and imported goods. When Indian leaders were arrested, angry crowds created an uproar as they became violent and forgot their path of non-violence and satyagraha. When the pace of this violence grew, the colonial government responded with harsh, brutal repression. Under these circumstances, Gandhiji decided to call off the Civil Disobedience Movement.
