Detailed Solution

The colours made of plants and minerals were used in The Ajanta Caves. These are a group of 30 Buddhist cave monuments carved out of rock in the Aurangabad district of Maharashtra state, India, between the second and about 480 CE.
The paintings and rock-cut sculptures found in the caves are among the best specimens of ancient Indian art. Particularly striking are the expressive paintings, which convey emotions through gesture, position, and form. Even after 1500 years, the painterly hues created from plants and minerals are vibrant. Since the cavern's interior was dark, most Ajanta paintings were created in the light of torches. The jataka legends and Buddha's life were depicted in these paintings. The most well-known picture is of the Bodhisattva Padmapani.
