Detailed Solution

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has ruled the state of West Bengal for more than 30 years, uninterrupted, from 1977 to 2011.
The CPI(M) is a left-wing political party in India and one of its eight national parties. Its ideology favours Communism (based on Marxism). The 34 years of rule it served in West Bengal is the most extended operating period in the world for a democratically elected communist government to be in power anywhere. It has also ruled for 30 years in the Indian state of Tripura. Currently, West Bengal is governed by the All India Trinamool Congress, with Mamta Banerjee as its Chief Minister.
