The Communist Party of India was formed in 1925.
The party depends on the ideas of communism and Marxism-Leninism. The party supports the thought of secularism and parliamentary democracy. Moreover, it is against the ideals of communalism, secessionism, etc. The Communist Party of India represents the interests and works for the welfare of the working class, agricultural labourers, the poor, etc. The party has a prominent presence in the states of West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, etc. The party saw its split in 1964. The new party formed out of it is the Communist Party of India-Marxist. Currently, CPI is one of the seven recognised National Parties of India.
