Detailed Solution

The company appointed a paid servant called the gomastha  to supervise weavers.
After gaining political authority in India, the East India Company attempted to gain control of the cotton textile and silk goods trade. It also began to obtain regular supplies of these items from Indian weavers. First, they established supervision and direct control over the weavers by employing paid servants known as Gomasthas. Gomasthas oversaw weavers, checked the quality of items, and secured consistent supplies. Second, the company discouraged weavers from negotiating with their purchasers by providing advances against purchase orders. As a result, after taking out loans, the weavers were unable to sell their cloth to any other trader and were forced to work for the Company's Gomasthas.
