After the Battle of Plassey Company forced the nawabs of Bengal to provide them land and money as personal gifts. Every official of the East India Company was eager to earn in India. Many of them died earlier in India due to reasons like disease and war. Not everyone was corrupt and dishonest, but some also came from humble backgrounds. They wanted to earn enough in India, and when they returned to Britain, they could live a comfortable life. Those who returned without any problems and consequences with wealth lived life amazingly and flaunted their riches were known as "nabobs" in Britain. It was the English version of the Indian word nawab.
