Detailed Solution

The compound with high boiling and melting point does not conduct electricity when it is in solid state. When it is in a molten state, it conducts electricity. It is an ionic compound and ions are the constituents present in it.
When ionic compounds are present in the form of solid state, it does not conduct electricity because ions present in it are bonded by ionic bonds. When they are melted, they separate in ion form and ions are free to move from one place to the another. NaCl is an example of an ionic compound and Na+and Cl- are the ions present in it.
