The concept of ‘omnis cellula-e-cellula’ states that all cells arise from pre-exiting cells. It was given by Rudolf Virchow, and it shows the existence of cell division for the multiplication of cells. It was later added to
cell theory as one of the criteria.

(3) Theodor Schwann proposed cell theory along with Mathias Schleiden. He studied different types of animal cells and reported that cells had a thin outer layer, which is now called plasma membrane. He concluded that presence of cell wall is a unique feature of plant cells.
(4) Schleiden is one of the proponents of cell theory and he stated that plants are composed of different kinds of cells that form the tissue of plant.
