The Indian National Congress held its annual session in 1927 at Madras. The congress session of 1927 had its significance in passing the resolution for the Boycott of Simon Commission. The British Government sent the Simon Commission to India to analyse the working of the constitutional system in India. However, Simon Commission was an all-white commission with no Indian holding its membership. This led Indians to oppose the commission. In the session of 1927, the boycott resolution was given popular character. The Simon Commission, on its arrival in 1928, faced backlash all over India.
