The Congress Session of 1927 was held in Madras. For the first time, Congress called for Purna Swaraj, or complete freedom, with Jawaharlal Nehru introducing the Independence Resolution. Because it passed a resolution asking for a boycott of the Simon Commission, the session was a watershed point in the history of the independence struggle. It also voted against Indian troops being used in China, Mesopotamia, and Persia. The Muslim League and the Hindu Mahasabha have decided to support the Congress' position.
