The consequence of the Revolt of 1857 was the end of East India Company rule. The revolt of 1857 was suppressed by the British. However, it led to a new phase in British rule in India.

The Company rule was removed in India. Now Indian administration came directly under the British crown.

From 1857 onwards, the head of the state in India was known as the Viceroy.

The government stopped the policy of annexation of territories.

Mughal rule was formally disbanded.

The British government was prevented from interfering in the socio-religious sphere of the natives in India.

Thus, the older order was replaced by the new form of government under the British crown. It presented instances where the government adopted policies and measures to invite minimum resistance.
