The Indian Constitution was ratified by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949. A representative assembly known as the Constituent Assembly was established with the goal of creating a constitution for an independent India. The Assembly's first meeting was held in December 1946 after the members were chosen by the then-current provincial legislature in a vote that took place in July 1946. There were 299 people in the Indian Constituent Assembly. A draft of the Indian constitution was created by the Drafting Committee, which was led by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. On November 26, 1949, the Indian Constitution was ratified by the Constituent Assembly. On January 26, 1950, two months after it was put into effect.
