The Constitution did not use the word "federation," but the Indian union is based upon the principles of the federation.
The Constitution of India have also mentioned the distribution of legislative power in the form of three lists: union, state, and concurrent. So each level of government has its jurisdiction to legislate. But we have the centralised federation in which the union government has 97 subjects, whereas the state and the concurrent list have a much smaller number of subjects. Union authorities also have the power to legislate on the residual powers.
