The Constitution of India was adopted on January 26th 1950.
India was a colony of the British for about 200 years. On August 15th 1947, India became an independent nation. Before Independence, India had established a Constituent Assembly to form a Constitution. The Constitution of India was written to provide social and political equality without discrimination. The Constitution was finally formed in November 1949. But January 26th was chosen for the enactment of the Constitution to celebrate 1930’s Purna Swaraj protests. Therefore, on January 26th 1950, India adopted its Constitution and became a republic nation.
