Detailed Solution

The corn law was passed in 1815. The government prohibited grain imports due to pressure from landowners. These rules were generally referred to as the Corn Laws of 1815. Food costs skyrocketed with the implementation of the Corn Laws. High food prices irritated industrialists and city dwellers alike. They compelled the British government to repeal the Corn Laws. Food could be brought into Britain at a significantly lower cost when the Corn Laws were repealed. British agriculture could not compete with imports, leaving vast tracts of land uncultivated and thousands of people out of work.
