Nationalists organised people to boycott imported clothing as the Swadeshi Movement gained traction. Additionally, since the Chinese market was swamped with goods from Chinese and Japanese mills starting in 1906, the shipment of Indian yarn to China decreased. Indian entrepreneurs started switching from producing yarn to textiles as a result. Between 1900 and 1912, India's production of cotton goods increased twofold.
