The CPI (M) is formed out of CPI. It came out of the oldest communist party in India, the Communist Party of India (CPI), by a split caused within the party in 1964. Like the CPI, the CPI(M) is also a believer in Marxist-Leninist ideologies and supports Socialism, Secularism and Democracy. It is one of the eight national parties of the country. However, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is a critic of the new economic policies and also, and it does not support free trade policies.
