Detailed Solution

The criteria for which a party is recognised as a political party of India is decided by the Election Commission. A registered party is only recognised as a National Party if it meets one of the three requirements. Firstly, the party should have won 2% of the Lok Sabha seats (11 as of 2014) from at least three states. Secondly, the party must receive 6% of the vote in four States at a general election for the Lok Sabha or Legislative Assembly. And also win 4 Lok Sabha seats from any state; in four or more States, a party is recognised as a state party. Moreover, parties officially recognised are given distinctive insignia that their candidates can only use. Thus the Election Commission of India recognises the parties that receive these benefits and other unique services.
