The Delhi Improvement Trust was set up in 1936 to make the living conditions and the infrastructure better for the residents of Delhi. Delhi became the focus of government activities after it became the capital in 1911. The trust built areas like Daryaganj South for wealthy Indians. The houses were grouped around parks. The houses were even modified from the inside. Now, instead of living spaces being shared by many families or groups, private spaces were created for different members of the same family within the home. The trust also had the job of controlling building operations and regulating land usage in the capital city.
