The Depressed Class Association was formed by Dr Ambedkar.
In 1930, Dr B.R. Ambedkar organised the Depressed Classes Association to help the people of the depressed class or Dalits. However, Ambedkar also belonged to the Dalit class and was aware of how society discriminated against the Dalits in every public event place, well, in schools and temples. Ambedkar did not want this discrimination to be prevalent in society and created this association for the Dalit community. However, Ambedkar demanded a separate electorate in the Second Round Table Conference, to which Gandhiji disagreed. Gandhi then started fasting up to death against the demand of a separate electorate. Thus Dr Ambedkar conceded eventually and signed the Poona Pact with Gandhiji.
