Detailed Solution

The "depressed class" got seats in the legislative council under Poona Pact.
The Poona Pact was signed on September 24, 1932. The pact was between Mahatma Gandhi and Dr Ambedkar regarding a separate electorate for the Dalit class, also known as Harijans. Dr B.R. Ambedkar demanded a separate electorate for the depressed type of Dalits. At the second Round Table Conference in London, Ambedkar put his demand in front of the British government. But Gandhiji disagreed with this because he thought it would delay their integration into society. So Gandhiji started his fast against the decision made by the British Prime Minister, Ramsay Macdonald.
