Detailed Solution

We are given the diameter of the wheel, which is 1. 26 𝑚. Then, we have to find the distance covered by the wheel in 500 revolutions.

To complete 500 revolutions, the wheel must take 500 complete rounds. So, its circumference comes in contact with the ground 500 times.

Now, the diameter of the wheel, 𝑑 = 1. 26 𝑚

So, the radius of the where, 𝑟 = d/2

r = 1.26/2

r = 0.63 m

𝑟 = 63 𝑐𝑚

(as 1 𝑚 = 100 𝑐𝑚)

Thus, the circumference of the wheel, 𝐶 = 2π𝑟

𝐶 = 2 x (22/7) x 63

⇒ 𝐶 = 22 × 18

⇒ 𝐶 = 396 𝑐𝑚

This is the distance covered by the wheel in one revolution.

So, the distance covered by the wheel after 500 revolutions = 396 × 500

⇒ 𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑐𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑑 = 198000 𝑐𝑚

⇒ 𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑐𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑑 = 1. 98 𝑘𝑚

Hence, the distance covered in 500 revolutions is 1. 98 𝑘𝑚
