The equation of a straight line which is at a unit distance from the origin is xcosα+ysinα=1(1)

Differentiating w.r.t. x

cosα+dydxsinα=0(2)

On eliminating α  from (1) and (2), we get

cosecα(yxdydx)=1

(yxdydx)=cosecα(3)

Also, slope =dydx=cotα        {using (2)}

cosecα=1cot2α=1(dydx)2(4)
