Detailed Solution

The disappearance of forests is referred to as deforestation. The process of deforestation became extensive during colonial rule. The British colonialist hastened the process of deforestation as:
1)      The British wanted to expand the agricultural land to meet the demand for food grains and revenue. So, they made legal procedures to cut the forest for expansion of cultivation.
2)      The demand for timber also fastened deforestation. They ordered the cutting of trees of diverse kinds and promoted the planting of commercial trees.
The demand for industrial uses, agriculture, pastures, and fuelwood lead to excessive deforestation.
