$\mathrm{Speed} \mathrm{of} \mathrm{the} \mathrm{train}, \mathrm{s} = \frac{\mathrm{Distance}, \mathrm{d}}{\mathrm{Time}, \mathrm{t}}$

$\mathrm{s} =\frac{240}{4}$

$\mathrm{s} = 60 \mathrm{km}/\mathrm{hr}$

Note: The distance covered by an object in a unit time as the speed of the object. 

Distance is the total movement of an object without any regard to direction.
