Detailed Solution

The distance has magnitude and the displacement has both magnitude and direction.
Distance is the total path travelled by an object in a time. Displacement is the shortest distance from initial point and final point of an object travelled. Distance has only magnitude and the displacement has both the magnitude and direction. Distance is always taken positive. Displacement can be negative, zero or positive. The magnitude of distance can never be less than the displacement but the magnitude of displacement is either equal to or less than that of distance covered during the same time.
