Detailed Solution

The diversion channels seen in the Western Himalayas are known as Guls and Kuls, built by the people of the hilly regions and especially by the people of Himachal Pradesh. It is a traditional water harvesting technique in which people of hilly areas store water in these diversion channels and only release water when there is a need for irrigation; about 30 hectares of land can be irrigated at once by a Kul. Farmers of Himachal Pradesh depend on this traditional irrigation technique as it has been in use for a very long time and also benefits farmers as it is known to everyone in hilly areas.
