Detailed Solution

Dalhousie imposed the Doctrine of Lapse. When Dalhousie was Governor General of India, he instituted a policy of state annexation known as the doctrine of lapse. This doctrine was applied to states that did not have a natural heir, such as Jhansi, which was annexed in 1854. Because Peshwa and Rani Laxmi Bai did not have a son, they adopted a boy as Jhansi's heir. But he was not Laxmi bai's biological son. As a result, under the Doctrine of Lapse, Jhansi was annexed. Similarly,  Satara, Sambalpur, Udaipur and Nagpur were annexed under it.
