The Dutch began their Scientific forestry in Java, Indonesia.
The Dutch colonized much of Indonesia and began their 'scientific forestry' on Java island. In scientific forestry, the natural forest cover was destroyed. The diverse species of plants and trees essential to maintain an ecological balance were cut down. In their place, one particular species of tree, deemed valuable by the colonists, was planted in straight rows. It is known as a plantation and was not at all 'scientific.' They also kept away the local communities from the forests in the name of forest management.
