Detailed Solution

The early industrial period that preceded industries is called proto-industrialisation. Before factories began to spring up all over England and Europe, there was significant industrial production for a global market. Many historians today refer to this period of the industry as "proto-industrialisation." This early industrial system served as a commercial centre as a result. Merchants controlled it, and a substantial section of the producers produced the goods on their family farms rather than in factories. Twenty to twenty-five workers were employed by each merchant for each stage of output. This suggested that each clothier oversaw a large number of workers. This arrangement was the norm until the advent of the industrial revolution.
