The East India Company was keen on expanding textile exports from India in 1760 because fine Indian textiles were in great demand in Europe.
After the 1760s, the East India Company's authority began to grow, but this did not immediately cause a drop in textile exports from India. There had been no growth in the British cotton industry. In Europe, fine Indian textiles were in high demand. Indian cloth was preferred in Europe over woollen because of its high quality and comfort. The British made their money by exporting Indian textiles, which benefited them. In the past, Britain had trouble keeping up with demand because of the large number of buyers of woven fabric in the Indian market. However, after establishing a monopoly on trade rights and political control in Bengal and Carnatic, Britain created procedures to regulate and drive out the competitors.
