An educational despatch was sent in 1854 by the Court of Directors of the East India Company was known as Wood’s Despatch. It presented the policy of education to be followed in India. The despatch had ulterior motives that were economic. It believed that the spread of western education could help Indians to recognize the benefits of Colonial rule. It recommended Educational departments to be set up in the government. The Wood’s Despatch aimed to create loyal Indians that could serve as civil servants in colonial rule.
